Carry the Ocean

Carry the Ocean is a photography series focused on Habesha (Ethiopian and Eritrean) community in Atlanta, GA. In the past four years, Shine Huang visited 20 families and took the portraits of them in traditional wears at home. In each photo session, photographer and sitter are learning culture from each other and discussing the experience of being immigrants.

This series is a small window showing a local community who come from a different culture background. It is also a mirror reflecting photographer’s understanding of being an immigrant living in the states.
